The recent Spanish atrocity had bought home the truth that the war against terrorism is not going well, as some would have us believe. But rather than whine about it,  what can be done to avert these attacks? 1. Hit them in the pocket. From the top down, the terrorists can be most effectively combatted by killing their finances. Money laundering is now the worlds third biggest industry, and in that rotten pile are funds that are made available to support the terroris...

In Britain two years ago there was a landmark ruling that a woman who was suffering from the advanced stages motor neurone disease had been refused the right for someone to help her to die, specifically her husband. She is paralysed from the neck down, but is cogent and responsible. Assisted suicide is illegal in Europe. Holland is the exception where doctors only are allowed to carry out this 'service'. But in Britian, doctors have been killing patients for years. When a ...

The war on terrorism, post Iraq. As the streets of Madrid flood with up to 12 million people marching in grief, horror and outrage at the latest terrorist atrocity that murdered at least 200 people and wounded 1400 others people, the question springs to mind that there has been little progress on the so called war against terrorism.   Osama remains uncaptured, terrorist atrocities occur with an almost monotonous frequency, and the US is bogged down in an ungovernable and as it...

Iraq - One year on.   One year ago, the US war machine rolled into Iraq, and met with little resistance.   The US had ignored the UN, and argued the case for war on intelligence that was later to be proven groundless and inncurate.   Many people at the time, even those dismayed at the US illegal action, asked the simple and reasonable question.   Having gone in, how would they get out?   This is known as the exit strategy, and all good military ...

A serial burgular was recently convicted of his crimes in a court in New Zealand and was sentenced by the judge to serve 20 months in a state prison. The burgular instantly lodged an appeal against the sentence. To the judges surprise, the defendant was demanding that his sentence should be increased by four months to a full two years. The question that leaps to mind of course is why would the burgular do this? A pang of conscience? A man so wracked with guilt that he felt he...

This week in Iraq, a new interim constitution was signed by the US appointed governing council. However, Ayatlooah Ali al-Sistani has warned that anyone that voted against the Shia dominated theocratical party of El-I-hate-the-great-Satan-America would be mown down, decapitated and stuffed with pork for the infidel dogs that they were. As the document was being signed, guerillas attacked two police stations in Bagdhad, a council member was gunned down in Mosul, a coalition hotel was h...

This report filed by our man on the spot, Roy Rubberplunger. This week a global summit of Philosophers met in Bagdad, Tasmania, to discuss the future of their discipline. It is reported that there were many heated exchanges epsecially at the fringe meetings where the hot topic of debate was apparently whether Catherine Zeta Jones was a 'Smoky big-breasted bitch that was gagging for it'. Or not. Professor Paradigm Shift was heard to express his disillusionment at the banali...

Earlier this week, the American Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, repeated his assertion that prisoners being held at Guatanamo bay were, 'Hardcore, well trained terrorists' and 'Among the most dangerous, best trained, vicious killers on the face of the planet'. Three boys aged 9, 12 and 13 are currently being considered for release. It is not known whether a 92 year old bed-ridden, blind and deaf man, arrested for 'deliberately wearing a towel on his head' was also ...

The Saudi govenment is trying to cut down on the nuber of deaths on its roads caused by the nearly half a million camels that roam its deserts. There are some 600 accidents and up to 150 deaths annually, most of them occuring at night time. A campaign that saw huge triangular signs erected, warning of the potential hazard seems to have had little effect on the number of  accidents. A spokesman, Ali Al-Ghamdi said that, 'The camels just don't seem to take any notice of the signs....

Marjorie Woodrow was removed from her family when she was just a child of two years.   She would not see her mother again for over 68 years.   Marjorie was one of 11,500 Indegenous people stretching from Perth to the Torres Straits Islands, many of them part of the stolen generations, forcibly removed from their parents 'for their own good'.   On leaving school, people like Marjorie were often given into domestic service. &nbs...

Tales from Coober Pedy.   Coober Pedy is the nearest to a gold rush frontier town that I have ever encountered.   Scowling, swarthy, leather faced men eye the stranger with suspicion, the last thing they want is another potential prospector staking a claim.   They mutter and glare darkly at attempts at conversation, and the fly strewn air means anything than a dash from shop to pub is as uncomfortable as trying to talk to one of the local prospec...
